The government of Rwanda is fuelling the Burundi powder keg with the potential to destabilise entire region
Since April 2015, Burundi is sitting on a powder keg, shaken by a political crisis that is currently teetering on a point of no return as the government has not effectively responded to the political agitation pitting those who support a presidential third term against those who are opposed to it. This chaotic situation has caused death of many Burundians and a flow of refugees in a period of just one month. The role of neighbouring Rwanda in this political upheaval cannot be overstated and is likely to ignite the entire region. This instability risks spilling over Rwanda, the DRC, Uganda and Tanzania.
