Your Excellencies,
RE: AMAHORO PEOPLE'S CONGRESS, FDU-INKINGI AND THE RWANDA NATIONAL CONGRESS CALL FOR A PEACEFUL AND NEGOTIATED SETTLEMENT IN RWANDA
We, on behalf of the undersigned Rwandan opposition political organizations:
1) call upon the United Nations, the European Union, African Union, and the governments of Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, and the United States of America to use their leverage to support comprehensive and unconditional dialogue between the Government of Rwanda on one side, and the FDLR and the political opposition on the other;
2) strongly recommend that the international community convey a strong message to the Government of Rwanda to end persecution (including arbitrary arrests and detentions, torture; involuntary disappearances, and extra-judicial killings) of government opponents and critics and their relatives in Rwanda, Uganda and other countries where Rwandans have sought asylum;
3) call upon the Government of Rwanda to release all of political prisoners immediately and unconditionally;
4) call upon the Force Intervention Brigade and MONUSCO to remain deployed in the DRC to help Rwanda, DRC and the Great Lakes region find sustainable peace and security; and;
5) express their gratitude to SADC, FIB, MONUSCO, the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the international community for their strong effort to support the search for peace and security in the Great Lakes region.
