Woman fights deportation
Saturday, February 22, 2014
A woman who claims she faces significant risk of harm if deported to
the Democratic Republic of Congo has won a Supreme Court order
restraining her deportation pending a decision on her two judicial
review applications.
Ms Justice Mary Laffoy, noting that lawyers for the Minister for
Justice had said it can take several years for applications for leave
to bring asylum related judicial reviews to be decided, urged these
applications should be expedited.
She was giving the court's judgment on the woman's challenge to the
High Court's September 2013 refusal of injunctions restraining her
deportation pending decisions on two applications for leave for
judicial review.
The woman came to Ireland in 2007 but was refused asylum.
