Deputy governor's Rwanda trip unapproved

Mombasa - An intense debate erupted at the Mombasa County assembly
chambers Thursday afternoon over the deputy governor's tour to Rwanda.
This was after the Bamburi ward representative, Riziki Fundi demanded
clarifications on who approved and sponsored the trip to Kigali
Rwanda.
Riziki had requested the Mombasa County assembly speaker, Thaddeus
Rajuai to inform the house who authorized the travel to attend the
commemoration of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
"I am not informed about the trip; am not aware if the trip was
approved by the governor. The committee in charge should investigate
and report to the house," said Rajuai.
The alleged trip has created a hot debate in the house with the county
representative demanding an explanation from the speaker as to why the
deputy governor had to travel to Rwanda to attend the commemoration of
the 1994 genocide.
Riziki said the trip has no meaningful benefit to the Mombasa County
and it was misappropriation of county resources.
"We have very little funds for development within the county but we
can still afford to airlift a contingent of nine members to Rwanda
without the approval of the county assembly Members?" posed Riziki.
The deputy governor left for Rwanda in the company of eight ward
representatives.
In response, Rajuai requested the relevant committees in the house to
prepare a report and present the same to the floor of the house next
week on the same, noting that the trip had violated the house rules
since they had no permission to abscond proceedings.
