Zambia deports ex-M23 rebel leader Mugisha

THE Department of Immigration has deported Moses Mugisha, 44, a
Rwandese former leader in the M23 rebel group in the Democratic
Republic of Congo.
In a statement, Immigration Department public relations officer,
Namati Nshinka stated that Mugisha, who also goes by a Rwandese name
of Mupenzi Jean Delapaix, was deported under a warrant signed by the
Minister of Home Affairs on grounds that his presence in Zambia was
likely to be a danger to peace and good order.
"Mr Mugisha entered Zambia on 10th December, 2013 via Nakonde as an
ordinary visitor using a Ugandan passport Number B1067496 and was on
28th January, 2014 arrested in Mandevu by a Joint Security Team under
the auspices of the Central Joint Operations Committee (CJOC). He was
deported in the early hours of Saturday 22nd June 2014 via Kenneth
Kaunda International Airport," Nshinka stated.
And Nshinka stated that the department arrested two Burundese, one
Somali and a Rwandese for working illegally.
He stated that the Lusaka regional immigration office on Thursday June
19 arrested 20 suspected prohibited immigrants.
Nshinka stated that this was during an operation conducted in Matero
and Kamwala.
"In other developments, the Magistrate Court in Lusaka on Friday, 20th
June 2014 convicted and sentenced a Congolese to a fine of K500 or in
default one month simple imprisonment for unlawful stay. The same
court also convicted and sentenced a Rwandese to a fine of K500 or in
default one month simple imprisonment for leaving a refugee camp
without authority," Nshinka stated.
He stated that similarly, the Lusaka Magistrates' Court convicted and
sentenced a Congolese woman to a fine of K1,000 or in default four
months simple imprisonment for unlawful stay.
Nshinka stated that the immigration in Lusaka arrested three Koreans
for working without immigration permits.
He stated that the trio was arrested at Lamise Investments.
Meanwhile, Nshinka stated that the immigration in Kafue last week
arrested an American for abrogating the conditions of his permit.
He stated that the American who came in Zambia as a volunteer working
for a named Non-Governmental Organisation was found working at a bar.
Nshinka further stated that the Chinsali Regional Immigration Office
last week arrested 10 Burundese after they were found with Tanzanian
Emergency Travel Documents suspected to have been tampered with by way
of photo substitution.
