Here are the top humanitarian headlines today on trust.org:

ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT: Talks to end a month-long war between Israel and Islamist militants in Gaza have made no progress so far, an Israeli official says, as a 72-hour ceasefire in the shattered Palestinian enclave holds for a second day.

EBOLA: The death toll from the worst ever outbreak of Ebola has reached 1,013 after another 52 people died in the three days to Aug. 9 in three West African countries, the World Health Organization says.

IRAQ: Iraq's president has named a new prime minister to end Nuri al-Maliki's eight-year rule, but the veteran leader refused to go after deploying militias and special forces on the streets, creating a dangerous political showdown in Baghdad.

COLOMBIA: Colombia is unlikely to sign a peace accord with Marxist rebels this year as the remaining items on the negotiating agenda are complex and time consuming, FARC guerrilla leader Rodrigo Londono says.

S. SUDAN: The United States has condemned South Sudan's government and rebels for failing to form a transitional government by Sunday's deadline, calling it "an outrage and an insult to their citizens". At least 10,000 people have been killed since fierce fighting erupted in South Sudan in December, pitting President Salva Kiir's government forces against supporters of Riek Machar, his former deputy and longtime political rival.
