Independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabzi has called upon Ugandans to be vigilant, with just 10 days left to polling day in order to thwart what he said are vote rigging intentions.

Speaking during a press briefing at Larem Guest house in Gulu district on Monday, Mr Mbabazi hinted on the possibility of Tanzanian and Rwandan nationals participating in Uganda's February 18 presidential election.

"There are many ways cheating could be done, we have people who come from Rwanda and Tanzania and they vote, I know that," Mr Mbabazi said.

Mr Mbabzi further noted, "The possibility of rigging is real, in any election all over the world. I have been calling for maximum vigilance at polling stations where rigging can take place, from allowing ineligible voters, double voting and vote stuffing."

Mr Mbabazi also disclosed that he will not hesitate to work with Museveni in the near future if that will bring about democratic change in the country, adding that what matters isn't personalities but objectivity and principles.

This comes at the backdrop of the inaugural presidential debate on January 15 where the former premier ascertained that he has no knowledge pertaining rigging in the previous elections. Although Mr Mbabazi did not rule out the possibility of previous election having been rigged, he said he was not personally aware.
