The family of a black teenager who was wrestled to the ground by nine policemen after "jaywalking" have made an official complaint to the police.
The unnamed 16-year-old was walking through the California city of Stockton at 7am on Tuesday when a policeman saw him walking in the bus lane, having reportedly just got off a bus.
He was stopped by a policeman, who then grabbed hold of him, and Edgar Avedano began to film the incident.
"The kid got stopped for jaywalking when he barely stepped out of the bus," said Mr Avedano. "He was two feet away from the sidewalk when the cop stopped him for 'jaywalking'.
"He didn't have to hit the kid with the baton and no need to call about 20 cops."
A witness can be heard repeatedly shouting: "He's just a kid!"
The officer calls for back up, and a further nine policemen push the teenager to the floor. He has now been charged with trespassing and resisting arrest.
Police have said they will investigate, but that their officers were acting as required.
"If everyone would just learn to comply with the lawful orders from police officers and not try to hold or grab any of our weapons force would never have to be used," said Joe Silva, from Stockton Police Department.
But the incident will heap further pressure on America's police, who are already underfire for heavy-handed tactics.
The Stockton incident was days after Ahmed Mohamed, a Texas teenager, was wrongfully detained after police thought his homemade clock was a bomb. President Barack Obama invited him to the White House as means of an apology, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Hillary Clinton all took up his case.
Last week James Blake, America's former number one tennis player, wasslammed to the pavement while standing outside his New York hotel, after police mistook him for a gang member.

The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.
I have loved justice and hated iniquity: therefore I die in exile.
The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.
When the white man came we had the land and they had the bibles; now they have the land and we have the bibles.

Auteur : The African Rights Campaign.

Why US Sanctions Against Rwanda Are So Important

Why US Sanctions Against Rwanda Are So Important Author: The African Rights Campaign. London, UK Published: March 2026   Introduction When a government is accused of extrajudicial killings, mass displacement, sexual violence, human rights abuses, and the systematic pillage of another country's mineral resources, the expected response in international diplomacy is an unequivocal denial backed by evidence. Rwanda did not do that. When the United States Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and four of its most senior commanders on 2 March 2026, Kigali's official spokesperson Yolande Makolo made a statement that diplomatic analysts will study carefully for what it conspicuously omitted. She said the sanctions were 'unjust,' that they targeted 'only one party to the peace process,' and that they 'misrepresent the reality and distort the facts.' Rwanda's government, described by Bloomb...
