KIGALI, Rwanda — A prominent Rwandan singer accused of working with groups opposed to President Paul Kagame's government has pleaded guilty to the charges, including terrorism.
Kizito Mihigo, a genocide survivor and composer of songs about genocide and reconciliation, appeared in a crowded courtroom in the capital, Kigali, along with a radio journalist and two others accused of plotting terrorist attacks and planning to harm government officials.
Prosecutors allege he collaborated with the dissident group Rwanda National Congress and Congo-based rebels known as FDLR, whose members are accused of perpetrating the 1994 genocide.
Mihigo had been missing for several days on April 14, when police confirmed to reporters that he was under arrest.
His arrest surprised many here as previously he had worked closely with the Kagame government on unity and reconciliation programs.
