Rwandan al Shabaab man surrenders

A man who claims to be an al-Shabaab militant has surrendered himself
to the police in Mandera.
Pascal Bizimungu, a Rwandese, walked into the Mandera Law Courts
compound last week and caused panic after he identified himself as an
al-Shabaab militant. He said he was seeking protection from the
government as the al-Shabaab militants wanted to kill him.
The man who first came to Kenya from Rwanda in 1996 says a Nairobi
sheikh took him to Somalia in 2009.
"I was taken to Mogadishu where I was in charge of over 50 people
and planning attacks on the Amisom troops," he says.
Bizimungu says after al Shabaab were defeated by the Amisom forces in
Mogadishu, they moved to Jilib, a Somali town located in South of
Kismayo. He has been operating from there until last week when he
surrendered to the Kenyan authorities, he says
Asked why he decided to give himself in, Bizimungu said, "I am tired
with Al-shabaab. We have done many bad things and killed many innocent
and now I'm tired. I have walked for more than 50km from Jilib because
they want me dead."
Bizimungu speaks Kisomali, Kiswahili, English and his native Kinyarwanda.
