Consortium to build large solar field i

Associated Press - 6 hrs ago

JERUSALEM (AP) — A Dutch company said Monday it has begun construction
of a solar field in Rwanda in what it said would be the first such
large-scale project in eastern Africa.

Gigawatt Global Coopereratief said it had closed the $23.7 million
financing for the project and that construction began last week.

Yosef Abramowitz, president of Gigawatt Global and CEO of Energiya
Global Capital, Gigawatt's Israeli affiliate, said the 8.5 megawatt
project will provide 8 percent of Rwanda's electricity. It is expected
to go online this summer.

Rwanda, like many parts of Africa, suffers from dire shortages of
electricity. The government aims to bring electricity to 50 percent of
the population by 2017.

Abramowitz said the project is "proof positive" that building a
utility-scale solar field in Africa is feasible. "We believe in power
for the people who need it most. Now we've shown it's commercially
viable," he said.

Consortium members include the Norwegian government's development fund
Norfund, Norwegian-based Scatec Solar, Dutch development bank FMO and
the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund. It also includes grant money
from the British, Finnish, Austrian and American governments.

The field is being built on land belonging to the Agahozo-Shalom Youth
Village, a facility built for youth orphaned by the 1994 Rwandan
genocide and modeled after an Israeli post-Holocaust orphanage.

Africans never really know how to do anything by themselves. The
closest they got was to sack colonial descendants while preaching
reclamation, sovereignty, self determination and the other bull %$#@.
But the next thing in an 'Animal Farm' style more than half their
populations hardly make it while as in one SADC country an executive
pockets a sinful $500 000 per month!!! And so the song should be
'welcome Dutch people, We could hardly wait for the second round of
imperialism'. At least they create jobs, not fooling people that a
whole country can be made up of entrepreneurs and no one works for
another.

This is not good. The berth lands is as worst as the EU, using
colonial past actions on Africa, which has been freed from imperialism
after WWII. The European continue their persistence on Africa mostly.
First the French and now the Dutch. If this continues, Africa will be
in a severe financial crisis because the EU is leading Africa into
bankruptcy, which most business work with China. The Europeans need to
leave Africa and let the Chinese and the Africans work together to
build what's possible. The past is past and they must focus on fixing
their own problems back home because they owe money to everyone.

This is great news for poor countries. I wish they could supply roof
top solar units for each house where the solar unit just supply the
battery during day time and the battery unit directly supply the
lights and specially adopted 12 V DC equipment like lights and a
fridge without using power losing invertor. Invertor wastes nearly 30%
of converted solar power. UK couldd sell such small modules to the
third world.

Aucun autre pays n'a encore ...

Paul Kagame: “We refuse to remove defensive measures"

Paul Kagame Refuses to Implement the Washington Accords and UN Security Council Resolution 2773: Analysis and Implications In an exclusive interview published on 3 April 2026, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda openly confirmed that Rwandan forces are deployed in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, rejected calls for their withdrawal, dismissed US sanctions as illegitimate, and signalled clear satisfaction with the current military status quo. This briefing examines what Kagame said, what his remarks mean for the Washington Accords, and what concrete steps the United States must now take if it wishes to restore credibility to its diplomacy in the Great Lakes region. Introduction: A Confession Wrapped in Grievance The interview, conducted by François Soudan and published in Jeune Afrique on 3 April 2026, is one of the most candid public statements Paul Kagame has made on Rwanda's military role in the DRC. Its significance does not lie in revealing something previously unknown. Th...
